I am so happy to share this very easy pattern for Granny Christmas Crochet Baubles! The Free pattern contains all the information you need to make these easy crochet baubles.
Important Details
I made my baubles in a Sports-weight cotton yarn – Scheepjes Catona and you can buy cute little balls of yarn in EVERY colour! You could also use a DK weight yarn but you may need to leave out round 5…..experiment and fit on your bauble as you go, and you will soon find what’s perfect for you.
If you use a 4 ply weight cotton yarn, you may need to repeat row 6 once or twice more, to make your crochet piece large enough to fit your bauble. Try it on as you go remembering that it needs to be a tight fit. You can easily stretch the 2 pieces as you sew them together! You will have a better fit if your final piece is slightly smaller than your bauble….as you stretch it will settle into place and give you a nice firm decoration. I use the cheap baubles you can buy everywhere in packs, and you probably have plenty of them in last year’s decorations!
Make loads in all your favourite colours! They make lovely Holiday gifts – just add them to a box with some tissue paper. Please share your baubles on Instagram and Facebook and tag #anniedesigncrochet I really love to see your makes!

I love this idea, just think of all the unusual yarns you could use. Thank you for sharing x
You are welcome! I am using some glitter yarn at the moment…..its another level!
Such a lovely crochet project! Thank you for sharing this pattern.
These are beautiful. I want to try them. I don’t see a hook size listed.
Cassie Armstrong
Hi Cassie. The hooks sizes depend on the yarn you use. 3.5mm works best for DK weight yarn and 2.5mm for a 4 ply/fingering weight yarn. You may need to adjust the amount of rounds, just measure on your bauble as you go. And thank you!
Does it have to be cotton yarn?
Hi:) You can make the baubles with any fiber (there are some lovely acrylic yarns). Cotton does give a very firm bauble but use whatever you have!
These are so cute .
Thank you
Thank you, thank you, those bubbles are so beautiful, the vÃdeo is so clear and easy to follow. I am from México city, congratulations!!
Thank you so much for the pattern. I can’t wait to use it and make gifts for my family and friends to treasure x
Thank you!
Curious to know if any chains occur between the double crochets.
No, there is no chains!
I made my first bauble and I’m hooked! I can’t wait to make more. They work up fast and are so lovely when finished.
Aww thank you! They are very addictive!
Thank you so much for sharing. This was a great holiday gift for the families at my childcare program :). Belen
Do you have a follow along video for these granny square baubles?
I don’t sorry! But I will try to make one:)
I’m think these are wonderful. I’m curious but do you put in a Styrofoam ball or use stiffener to make they stay round?
Hi! I use cheap baubles that you probably already have at home for your tree. I sew the 2 sides together over the ball to cover it
Could you just stuff them with poly fil?
You could! Have fun:)
