Crochet Bauble Insert Details

You can use plain Christmas Baubles to cover that you will find in stores, or even better, you can upcycle last years christmas ball ornaments with new funky bright covers.

If you prefer, you can stuff the baubles with toy stuffing and add a hanging loop to the top of the bauble.

Ideas for Christmas Crochet Baubles

Use vibrant folk colours, or traditional Christmas shades to make these bright and cheerful decorative baubles.

The crochet balls have plenty of texture for extra flair, and you can add a personal touch by using your favourite colours.

The colourful baubles would make a beautiful handmade gift – add some tissue paper to a box, and you have a last-minute crochet gift completed!

Include some natural greenery and a crochet star garland to add to your Modern Boho Holiday decoration.

I could not resist making some Rainbow Crochet Baubles and Rainbow Crochet Flowers as part of my selection, they are so bright and gorgeous!

Measurements

Each bauble measures approx. 8in [20cm] in circumference.

Gauge is not important for this project.

Materials

  • Small amounts of 4 ply yarn/ sports weight cotton yarn in various colours. Examples would be: Yarn and Colors must have, or Scheepjes Catona
  • 2.5 mm hook
  • Yarn Needle to weave in threads and sew your bauble
  • Scissors
  • Christmas bauble approx. 8in [20cm] circumference. You can use some from last years decorations!

Abbreviations (US crochet terms)

  • Sl st – slip stitch
  • Ch(s) – chain(s)
  • Sc – single crochet
  • Tr – treble crochet
  • Yo – yarn over
  • Beg – beginning
  • St – stitch

Notes

  • Change your colour for every round on side one of bauble
  • You can crochet over your ends as you work, saving you weaving in threads later
  • Chain 6 at beginning of side one will create a large centre hole for popping over the top of your bauble
  • A light dk yarn and a 3 mm crochet hook would also work well. You may need to leave out the last round
  • The pattern is written in US crochet terms

Slip side one over the cap of your Christmas ball as you can see below.

Using the yarn tail from side 2, sew your 2 sides together, gently stretching on to ball as you go.

Insert your yarn needle into a stitch on side 1 and then a stitch on side 2 as you work your way around. Fasten off and weave in all threads.

  1. Buonasera Annie! Io sono in difficoltà nello spingere le maglie alte, non credo di aver capito come fare e non ho lo stesso effetto che vedo sulle tue palline. Puoi aiutarmi? Grazie infinite.

  2. I watch creative grandma all the time and she often speaks of Annie’s regarding patterns and yarns so I decided to try and find you. Thank for beautiful patterns

  3. A video tutorial of the boho baubles would be great.
I picked up a crochet hook for the first time over Christmas with a mission to make a Christmas bauble and thanks to your fantastic tutorial I did it.
Now I would love to have a go at the boho baubles.
I’m not very good at following patterns but the videos are great.

    1. Well done! I do plan a video for the boho baubles, hopefully later in the year! And thank you

    2. I’m a bit of a beginner and am struggling to follow the written instructions. Is there a video to help with the boho decorations?
      Thank you

  4. I find that on the rows doing the treble crochet, I just turn the work around, and work in the other direction, the baubles pop out, and you don’t have to push them out. Flip back around on the next row.
    This makes the cutest ornament!!
