A free gradient crochet shawl pattern for an asymmetrical shawl, that is deceptively easy to make. Make a Crochet Fade Shawl with 3 colours of your choosing.
Ombre or gradient yarns can be so much fun to crochet with. They make the colour changes for you. But what if you want to create your own crochet colour gradient? Maybe you have three colours in your stash that you love and know that they would play beautifully together. Below, I’ll give you a colour sequence for how to crochet a gradient shawl with solid-coloured yarns.
The shawl pattern alternates rows of double crochet stitches with rows of filet crochet lace. The lace accents add visual interest and also it more breathable. So it’s the perfect summer crochet shawl.

This is a very easy crochet pattern that a beginner will be able to make. Just make sure to keep count of your stitches!
Choose your favourite fingering weight or DK weight yarn, and crochet the repeat pattern until you reach the size you want (mine has 92 rows). Perfect for relaxing during Netflix binges!
Yarn for Crochet Fade Shawl
I used 3 similiar colours which blended beautifully together. The yarn is a lovely cotton/merino mix. The stitch definition was crisp and smooth and a pleasure to crochet with!
You can make your shawl following the colour changes in the sequence below or have fun making your own. The shawl would also look amazing using your favourite gradient yarn cake.

Beautiful shaw. Thank you for your generosity and sharing your talent.
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your lovely comment. Happy crocheting!
Beautiful shawl, I put my crochet hooks away a long time ago and went to knitting but this shawl has brought my crochet hook out again. It has been years since I have crochet I hope it comes back to me. Thank you for sharing your pattern. nanad
love the colors for this shawl you used
Thank you! I loved them too when I saw them….earthy but vibrant
I love this shawl! I was looking for a crochet version of my boomerang shawl I knit and this is what I wanted. I did find an error on color sequence color A should be from rows 64-87 not 187 as shown. Thank you for a great pattern!
Thank you for your kind words, and thank you for spotting error….changed now!
What colors did you use for the shawl? What were colors A, B, C?
Hi. I used 3 similar shades from this yarn but I think they are now discontinued https://performanceyarn.com/product/wooly-cotton-space/
I know this pattern is a few years old as of now, but I just found it…..but my issue is I am getting holes on both sides. Is this normal until its washed? Hopefully I hear back from you.
Hi! Are your stitches on each side too loose? Perhaps ch2 instead of ch 3 for your turning chain:)
Thank you for getting back to me, yes they are loose, I don’t crochet tight. I’ll try that. Again thank you!
Hi. Nice pattern. But it does not give the measurements that you indicate. If we do the arithmetic, your last row contains 138 st ÷ 5 st per inch (the same as 20 st per 4 inches) gives a measurement of 27.6 inches. That’s a little short of even the 45 inches that you announced for the short side.
Hi! I don’t have that sample any more as this pattern is many years old but I will check it out and get back to you:)
