one skein crochet shawl pattern

Sharing is caring!

Vintage Peach is a light and airy One Skein Crochet Triangle Shawl. The pattern is simplicity at its best! Once you have the first few rows established, it is basically a one-row repeat pattern.

When you have completed your shawl, it is the essential blocking that turns it into this beautiful delicate creation! Add a touch of cream for the edging, and you have a vintage crochet shawl pattern to be proud of!

Yarn for Crochet Triangle Shawl

I used One Skein of a fingering weight yarn to make my shawl. I had been hoarding a very precious skein of La Bien Aimee that I had purchased on a weekend break last year. The beautiful yarn needed a simple stitch pattern that would show the gorgeous flecks of colour at their best.

This beautiful triangle lace shawl is also crocheted using one skein of the same lovely yarn.

The pattern is very versatile and you can use any yarn you wish. A DK weight yarn (Light Worsted) and a suitable crochet hook, would also be perfect for a fast project and would make a cozy scarf/shawl for winter.

You just stop crocheting when your shawl is large enough, or you run out of yarn. Add a contrast border or make your shawl in a single colour.

Stitches for the Triangle Crochet Shawl

Vintage Peach uses Treble Stitches (double treble in UK crochet terms) so it is a fast make worked in rows from the bottom up to create a wide shallow triangle shawl.

It is suitable for beginners and I have included a Video Tutorial further down the page to help you along. Just make sure to block your shawl when finished, this is where the magic happens!

Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as 1 tr here and throughout), [1 tr, ch 3, 1 tr] in 1st st (base of ch 4), 1 sc in ch-3 sp, [1 tr, ch 3, 2 tr] in last st (top of beg ch 4), turn – 6 tr, 1 sc, 2 x ch-3

Row 4: Ch 4, [1 tr, ch 3, 1 tr] in 1st st, 1 sc in next ch-3 sp, [1 tr, ch 3, 1 tr] in next sc, 1 sc in next ch-3 sp, [1 tr, ch 3, 1 tr] in next sc, 1 sc in next ch-3 sp, [1 tr, ch 3, 2 tr] in last st (top of beg ch 4), turn – 10 tr, 3 sc, 4 x ch-3

Row 5: Ch 4, [1 tr, ch 3, 1 tr] in 1st st, * 1 sc in next ch-3 sp, [1 tr, ch 3, 1 tr] in next sc; rep from * across, ending with [1 tr, ch 3, 2 tr] in last st (top of beg ch 4), turn

Rows 5 – 44: repeat row 5. Fasten off yarn. Continue to border. You can choose to make the border with the same yarn as body of the shawl if you wish or use a contrast colour.

Border

You will be working down the first side of the shawl to ‘peak’ (beg of pattern). You will place each sc in either a ch4 or side post of a tr, as you work your way along the side. I have included a short helpful guide for the edging in the video if you need it

Row 1: Turn piece to work down 1st side, ch 2, picot (see special stitches), ch 2, 1 sc around 1st row end, * [ch 2, picot, ch 2], 1 sc around next row end; rep from * working down the side of shawl to bottom peak, and continuing up 2nd side. Work [ch 2, picot, ch 2] sl st in final st. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all loose ends. Soak your shawl in lukewarm water and gently wring in a towel. Lay project out to finished size and pull gently into shape. Pin in place and leave to dry. Take your time pinning finished shawl, and I recommend that you use a pin on each ‘point’ of the border…….it will make a huge difference to the finished piece! Add tassels if you wish.

  1. just found your site. Since I am shawl crazy, this is right up my ally. Love your work and I am a fine yarn crochet and knitter since Iwas 5 yrs old. I am now 77 (in a few months) and I was having a hard time finding these patterns. THEY ARE ALL HERE. Can’t wait start with my metallic yarn grey and white cake just waiting for you. Thank you very much I will be back. The only thing is my printer dosen’t work so I work from my computer.. I have never replied to any patterns before. thanks again Carole

    1. Lovely to hear from you Carole! Enjoy crochet and I am so pleased you found some patterns you like xx

  2. I made a swatch of this pattern and I love the look. Can you provide some hints on how to make this as a rectangular shawl rather than triangular? Thanks

  3. just ordered the pattern and the same yarn used in the blog/pattern. I can’t wait until the shipment arrives so i can get started on this gorgeous pattern! Thank you!

    1. I am so pleased for you! It is a beautiful luxury yarn to treat yourself:)

    1. Hi. The yarn is La Bien Aimee Merino Singles in colourway Peche Pom Pom. I purchased my skein in a shop in Lisbon. The only webshop I know that sells it is Loop London. You may find it there:)

  4. I loved making the Halo shawl for a friend last year, now it is one for me! I am using a yarn that I am in love with – Drops Sky. It is more of a Autumn/Winter but lightweight shawl that I was going for and this is working up beautifully. Thank you so much Carmen for your gorgeous patterns! Another winner.

  5. Beautiful work and clear instructions – thank you so much for sharing. Not sure where you’re from but you have lovely accent (Irish?) on your videos. Will look forward to more of everything soon and thanks again.

    1. You can puchase the adfree PDF pattern in my Etsy or Ravely shop, links are in the post:)

  6. I love this lacy stitch pattern and really appreciate your providing a video with it. I do much better crocheting a new pattern this way. I love the color not only of the peach but in your video you have a yarn with light mint, lavender/purple which are my favorites. Can you tell me what yarn this is? It’d be great to be able to start soon!

    thanks 😀

    Cathy

    1. Hi Cathy. I am not sure what the yarn was as it was a small amount left from a skein. I think it was from a yarn dyer that is no longer available. If you have a look at hand dyed yarns on Etsy you may find something similar. Hope that helps!

  7. i cant find the video totorial for the vintage peach shaw ,i bought the patteren at a store
Help not that sure on getting the shaw started

  8. Beautiful – can’t wait to start. Please clarify the yardage. First you say “La Bien Aimee Merino Singles /400yds [366m].” Then you say “You can use 400m of any fingering weight yarn or yarn weight of your choice.” It’s not a huge difference, but 400 yards and 400 meters are not equal.

    1. No you are correct. The majority of skeins of fingering weight dyed yarn are average 400m so that is why I suggested that number. The skein I used is slightly smaller at 366m. Because the pattern can be made as wide as you wish (or according to how much yarn you have) it is a versatile design!
