This easy lace crochet shawl is the perfect project to showcase that special skein you’ve been saving! With its graceful asymmetric shape, it’s a quick and satisfying free pattern that works up beautifully, even for beginners.
Like my other popular one skein crochet shawl designs, this project maximizes every yard of yarn. It creates something truly wearable and elegant. The finished shawl measures approximately 63 x 58 x 41 inches when blocked. Just one skein transforms into a beautiful statement piece.

Crochet Asymmetrical Shawl Details
This versatile crochet shawlette drapes beautifully around your shoulders or can be styled as a scarf. It is perfect to add to an outfit for a pop of color. The asymmetrical triangle shape creates visual interest and makes it easy to wear in multiple ways.
The shawl begins with just a few stitches at one end and works in rows. You will make increases on one side and “stepped” decreases every two rows on the other. The finishing touch is a simple picot edging in a contrast yarn that frames the lacy texture perfectly.

Materials Needed
I purchased some beautiful skeins recently, from Fine Leaf Fibres, a local Irish yarn dyer. For this shawl, I chose their fingering weight yarn in a vibrant golden shade that captures light beautifully. The blend of superwash merino, yak, and nylon creates incredible softness with just the right amount of drape.
Any fingering weight yarn with similar yardage (approximately 400m) will work perfectly for this pattern.
- 1 skein (approx 400m) of fingering weight yarn
- Small amount of contrast yarn for edging (about 10g)
- 4mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
The shawl will really benefit from blocking and I have written a helpful tutorial at the end of the pattern.

Skill Level
This pattern uses basic stitches – chains and double crochet stitches. The simple increases/decreases, make it accessible for confident beginners. The lacy stitch pattern includes a regular repeat that becomes almost meditative once you establish the rhythm.
For those who prefer visual guidance, a detailed crochet chart is included in the low-cost PDF version of the pattern.

Blocking Your Crochet Shawl
Blocking is essential for this lacy shawl and l recommend wet blocking for the best results. It will open up the lacy pattern and create a perfect drape.
- Soak in lukewarm water with gentle wool wash for 20 minutes
- Squeeze out excess water – never wring!
- Roll in a towel to remove moisture
- Lay on blocking mats and pin firmly along all edges
- Pin each point of the picot edging for crisp definition
- Allow to dry completely before unpinning
