Details for the Crochet Flowers

You will start by crocheting the center of the flower in a contrasting color. You will then add a layer of petals using popcorn stitches (there are step by step photo instructions) around the center in a different yarn. You will make your second layer of petals by working into the back of the flower to create more petals.

The textured stitches give a stunning result that closely resembles real flowers. And the popcorn stitches add a lovely texture to the petals

If you prefer a smaller flower, you can easily leave out the second layer for a small crochet flower pattern.

Best Yarn for Crochet Flowers

I was recently sent some lovely new colours one of my favourite yarns King Cole Bamboo Cotton DK. It was always my go-to yarn for making crochet flowers for years and is a mixture of acrylic and cotton yarn. It gives great stitch definition and the colours are so beautiful.

You can use any weight yarn you wish to make these simple flowers. Worsted weight yarn will give you a large flower and fingering weight yarn is perfect for cute little flowers.

You will a need a crochet hook that’s appropriate for the yarn weight you’re using (check the yarn label for recommendations)

You will only need small amounts of yarn so a crocheted flower is a great way for using up your yarn scraps.
