I have included some helpful picture tutorials and used vintage-inspired shades of coral and yellow for the flowers with accents of brown, sage and cream. You could choose to make flowers to match your own decor.

17” square.

I used a standard 17″ pillow that I bought in a local store. Pillow front is attached to a ready made pillow to save time. The flowers are made separately and sewn on to the front. You can use any scraps of cotton yarn for the flowers and leaves.

18 sts and 16 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern stitch (if you use the yarn in pattern)

Tips for Pillow/Cushion sizes

You can make the pillow front to any size. Make a chain that is approx 2inches smaller than the size you want, making sure you have an uneven number of chains. For example – if you want to attach your pillow front to a 20″ pillow, make a chain approx 17/18″ long. The border rows will add an additional 1.5-2″ to the piece. I always like to leave a pillow front slightly smaller than the cushion and stretch it on as I attach it. There is nothing worse than a wrinkled cover!

  • YarnCascade Yarns Ultra Pima Fine (100% Cotton; 136 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 3718 Natural (main colour)
  • I used scraps of the following colours of Cascade Pima Fine I had in my stash: 3762 Spring Green, 3736 Ice, 3752 Coral, 3767 Deep Coral, 3743 Yellow Rose, 3720 Sage, 3716 Chocolate, 3717 Sand
  • You can use any yarn you like. Scheepjes Catona or Paintbox Cotton DK are two yarns that would also be suitable.
  • Hook: 3.5 mm for the pillow and 3.00 mm for the flowers and leaves
  • Notions: 17” Pillow, tapestry needle, removable stitch marker, matching sewing thread
