How Many Granny Squares Make a Blanket?

The amount of squares in granny square crochet blankets varies widely, and can be as few as one. Several of the blankets in this collection are simply a large granny square, worked from the center out until it’s the desired size. Other designs use mini granny squares with just one or two rounds (like the ones in this pillow). These blankets may use hundreds of squares each!

If you’re making a blanket from multiple squares, you can figure out how many squares you will need by crocheting one square from your chosen yarn and measuring it. Divide your desired length and width by the length and width of the granny square to determine how many squares you need along each side of the blanket.
