You will crochet a circle motif in rounds using double crochet and cluster stitches. First make a magic circle for the center of the flower, crochet 3 rounds – adding a new color for each round.

The final round uses the popcorn stitch for some extra texture.

Recommended Yarn and Colors

You can use Sunflower shades – brown, gold, orange and yellow yarn. But this flower will also look beautiful in different colors.

Acrylic yarn works great and is easy to wash and dry, especially if you are attaching to hats or blankets. You could also use cotton yarn which gives great stitch definition and comes in amazing colors.

For my sunflower motifs, I used small amounts of cotton dk weight (category 3) yarn and a 4 mm hook. You can use different yarn weights and matching hook size to make your crochet flowers in different sizes.

Try a worsted weight yarn and a 5.5 mm hook. Have a look and see what you have in your stash!
