Color-Block Crochet Scarf Details
If you like to wear neutral clothes like me, accessories in bold and vibrant colours make a great statement. I used 5 colours in one of my favourite worsted weight yarns – Stylecraft Special Aran. The yarn is budget friendly and washable and comes in so many gorgeous shades.

Stylecraft Special Aran (100% Acrylic; 214 yards [196 meters]/100gr]
One ball in each of the following colours
- Yarn A: 1725 Sage
- Yarn B: 1023 Raspberry
- Yarn C: 1709 Gold
- Yarn D: 1080 Pale Rose
- Yarn E: 1218 Parchment
Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm)
Any Worsted Weight yarn will give a similiar result
Measurements
76” / [193 cm] x 9.5” / [30 cm] (excluding fringe)
Gauge
2 shell pattern repeats = 2.5”, 3 rows = 2.5”

Instructions For Crochet Color Block Scarf (US crochet terms)
Using Yarn A, ch 37
Row 1: 3 dc in the 5th ch from hook, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch, * ch 3, 3 dc in same ch as last sc, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in next ch; rep from * to end. Turn
Row 2: Ch 4, 3 dc in first ch of beginning ch 4, skip next sc and 3 dc, 1 sc in next ch-3 sp, * ch 3, 3 dc in same ch-3 sp, as sc just made, skip next sc and 3 dc, 1 sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * across, working last sc under beg ch 4. Turn
Repeat Row 2 for pattern for a total of 10 rows in Yarn A.
Repeat colours as follows:
10 rows Yarn B, 10 rows Yarn C, 10 rows Yarn D, 10 rows Yarn E, 10 rows Yarn B, 10 rows Yarn A, 10 rows Yarn D, 10 rows Yarn E.
Fasten off. and weave in all threads.

Using Yarn A, ch 37

Fasten off. and weave in all threads.
Fringe
Make a total of 16 fringes, 8 in Yarn C, and 8 in Yarn A. For each fringe, cut 3 strands of yarn approx. 12” in length and fold in half. Attach 8 evenly across each end of Scarf and trim if needed.

I wanted to make this a little more wider. Can you let me know what multiples of foundation chain should I crochet?
The multiple is 4. I always crochet a longer than needed chain and work the 1st row until I reach the size I need….it will save you starting again and you can unpick the spare chains afterwards!
Thank you for your reply. But your foundation chain 37 is not a multiple of 4. Is it multiples of 4 plus 1 chain?

In reading the pattern, it appears there is only ONE “block” of Color C. However, the photos appear to show TWO blocks of each of the five colors. Which is correct??

I love this pattern but I’m a beginner and I’ve only done projects through YouTube tutorials and I’m having trouble understanding the pattern, is there a resource our there to better read this? I looked up shell sticht on YouTube but what they were doing seemed different. Thank you so much in advance!

I’ve really enjoyed making this scarf. It looks great but I may be missing something in your pattern as I can’t see how to finished the scarf off with a straight edge matching the beginning. I’ve tried to work it out but as a beginner at crochet I can’t make it work. I Would be grateful for some advice please.
Hi Elaine. The ending will not be totally straight as you can see from the pictures. It has a slightly scalloped edge. Don’t worry, it will be fine!
