Who says a Christmas tree has to be green? This crochet flower Christmas tree pattern is bursting with color, with a big raised petal flower right in the middle and bold boho shades all around it. It is a little bit retro, a little bit flower power, and so much fun to make!
If you have made my Granny Square Christmas Tree, you will already know the folding trick. You just need one crochet square, a few simple folds, and suddenly you have a tree! This time I wanted to add something extra, so the square starts with a flower in the center. And if you made my Jolly Bauble Christmas Tree last year, these three crochet Christmas trees look so cheerful hanging side by side.
Grab your brightest cotton scraps and have fun mixing up the colors. It is a cheerful crochet Christmas decoration that is perfect for using up scraps, and no two trees will ever be the same. Hang them on your tree as ornaments, string them into a crochet Christmas garland, or tie one onto a gift for a handmade touch.

Crochet Flower Christmas Tree Decoration
This easy crochet Christmas tree decoration starts with a flower. First you work a little center with 8 raised petals, made with a simple 3dc cluster. Next you work behind the petals to turn the flower into a square, adding a new color for the outer rounds.
Once your square is finished, you fold it into a tree shape and sew it in place. The flower sits right on the front, like a bright boho bauble. A short trunk and a hanging loop finish off your ornament, and a bead on top adds a little festive sparkle.
If you have made my Granny Square Christmas Tree, the folding will feel familiar. If this is your first one, I have included step-by-step folding photos to help you.

Yarn Suggestions for the Crochet Flower Christmas Tree
I made my trees with small amounts of Hobbii Friends Cotton 8/6, a 100% cotton DK yarn. It comes in so many bright shades, which makes it perfect for a colorful boho Christmas tree.
Another lovely option is Yarnsmiths Cotton DK. It is also 100% cotton, and it has a huge range of around 150 colors, so you can really go wild with your color combinations!
I recommend cotton yarn for this pattern because it has great stitch definition, so the raised petals really pop. It also holds its shape well, which keeps your folds neat, and the colors stay bright and crisp year after year.
Any DK or light worsted yarn with a 4mm hook will work too, so have a look through your scrap yarn first. If you want a little extra sparkle, try a metallic thread for the hanging loop.

How to Fold Your Crochet Square into a Tree
- Place your square with the wrong side (WS) facing you.
- Fold the sides in. Take the left and right corners and fold them inward so that they meet in the center. Pin in place if needed.
- Fold the bottom up. Bring the bottom corner up towards the centre, creating a neat triangle shape.
- Secure the folds. Use a couple of pins to hold everything in position.
- Sew the seams using matching yarn. Carefully stitch along the folds to secure the shape and form the triangular tree.

Tree Trunk
Using any color, and with front of tree facing out, find the 4 center stitches at the bottom of the tree. Insert your hook into the first of the 4 stitches (you may have to wriggle your hook to find a space, but it will work out fine), yarn over and pull up a loop.
Row 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), 1 sc in same st, 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, turn – 4 sc
Row 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st across, turn – 4 sc
Row 3: Ch 1, 1 sc in each st across – 4 sc. Fasten off yarn and weave in all threads.

Hanging Loop
With any yarn, ch 23. Fasten off yarn leaving a tail to attach.
Fold over hanging loop and sew each end securely to top of the tree. Weave in all threads. Add a bead for an extra festive touch!
I used beads with a larger centre hole that I purchased in a craft store.

I hope you will enjoy making this Crochet Flower Christmas Tree Ornament! They are quick to make and full of festive charm. Ideal for beginners and a great stash-busting project!
