Granny Square Dishcloth Pattern Details

This was my first time crocheting a dishcloth with granny squares and I loved the result. It was easy to grasp in my hand and felt proper ‘scrubby’ when washing up.

The crochet square pattern is made in the round. The first 2 rows form a flower circle and you will then square it off in round 3. You will continue to crochet 5 more rounds like a normal granny square. The last 2 rounds create a pretty edging for your dishcloth.

For my dishcloths, I used DK weight cotton yarn with a 4mm hook. Cotton is really the best choice for dishcloths and washcloths as it is sturdy, holds its shape, and is easily washable.

If you prefer a thicker fabric, Aran or worsted weight cotton also works well with a 5mm hook. It’s a great way to make something special from those spare skeins of cotton yarn you’ve got on hand.
