Blanket Stitch Details

This quick pattern uses just two crochet stitches, the single crochet and the double crochet. The single repeat row and simple stitch pattern make it perfect for those who are new to crocheting. Or if you are looking for a relaxing make!

The stitch pattern is textured and cozy and looks good on both sides. The blanket does not need a border but you can add one if you wish by working a round or two of single crochet around all sides.

I love the freshness of the stripe pattern in pink and cream, but you can choose any color combination you wish. You will alternate between the colors every two rows or you could choose to use a solid color. Self-striping yarns also look great in crochet baby blankets

Yarn Details

To create this blanket, you will need about 800m of a worsted weight yarn. A soft and gentle yarn, such as acrylic or cotton, would be the best option for a handmade baby blanket.

I used 4 balls in total of one of my favourite worsted weight yarns – Stylecraft Special Aran. It is widely available and is a beautiful acrylic soft yarn that is lovely to use. And easily washable which is very important for a baby blanket! Any alternative worsted weight/aran yarn can be used for this blanket.

You will also need a 6 mm crochet hook.

You can use any light weight yarn for the crochet flowers and I have included a simple pattern for the flowers further down the page.
