What is Crochet Lace?
For the purposes of this roundup, crochet lace refers to any crochet stitch combination that creates large, open spaces. Most of the patterns featured here are lightweight shawls that are super breathable and perfect to throw over a summer outfit or evening dress as a thin layer.
Some of the crochet lace patterns used in these shawls are a little more dense. However, they still have the characteristic openings of “lace.” These heavier lace shawls would be great to add warmth with a feminine touch.

One of my favourite things about crochet lace is the variety of interesting stitch patterns! If you’re an experienced crocheter looking for a new stitch to try, lace provides almost endless variety.
Some lace shawl designs use chains to create openings. Others use tall stitches (double crochet stitches, trebles, etc.). You’ll find shells, V stitches, filet crochet, or combinations of these stitches. Some incorporate solid sections or contrasting colours. I’ve even included a Tunisian crochet shawl.
You’ll notice every shawl in this roundup uses a unique stitch pattern. They’re delightful to look at and even more fun to crochet!
