Faded Blooms is a Free Crochet Lace Shawl Pattern that creates a beautiful accessory to brighten a winter coat or a lightweight lacy shawl for warmer evenings.
A very pretty shawl design with a fabulous drape, using approx. 800 – 900m of fingering weight yarn. 2 beautiful skeins of yarn is all that is needed to show off this large and lacy triangle shawl in an easy 2-row repeat pattern. Made using basic crochet stitches that combine to create an interesting shell stitch pattern, that is relaxing and quick to crochet.

Inspiration for this Free Crochet Pattern
The yarn has beautiful shades of purple, lilac and pinks in glorious faded hues, reminding me of Summer flowers fading in Autumn. I dry Hydrangea flowers every year from my garden and love the rustic charm of the faded blooms during the Winter. They remind me of my lovely Mother who loved to grow Hydrangeas in all the colours.

Size for Lace Crochet Shawl
The shawl is large and very drapey, perfect size for wrapping yourself in! Measurements are 78 in [198cm] wide but you can make the shawl any size you wish. The shawl is worked from the top down so you can easily adjust the size.
If you have always wanted to crochet a Lacy Shawl, you find many Crochet Shawl Patterns on my blog including many lace crochet shawl patterns using only one skein of yarn. You can check them out below.

You can finish on any odd row of pattern (row 7 of repeat). Depending on your tension, you may need to finish on an earlier row. Make sure you leave enough yarn to make tassels if you wish.
Finishing
Weave in all loose ends. Soak your shawl in lukewarm water and gently wring in a towel. Lay project out to finished size and pull gently into shape. Pin in place and leave to dry. Take your time pinning your shawl…….it will make a huge difference to the finished piece! Add tassels if you wish.
Tassel Instructions
Make 3 tassels as follows: Using a book approx. 8” in width, cut a 12” length of yarn and lay across top of book – this will be used to tie top of tassel. Wrap yarn around book about 50 times (depending on thickness required). Using the 12” tie, knot top of tassel tightly. Cut tassel at opposite end. Wrap another length of yarn around tassel 1” from top approx.8 times and knot ends together. Trim if needed and sew securely to 3 corners of shawl.
