Yarn for a Crochet Granny Scarf
I used my favourite worsted weight yarn – Stylecraft Special Aran. The yarn is budget friendly and washable and comes in so many gorgeous shades. You can use any worsted weight yarn you have available.
The pattern is suitable for beginner crocheters. Once you can make a granny square, you will have no problem making this granny scarf!

Yarn: Stylecraft Special Aran (100% Acrylic; 196m:100 grams): 1 ball each of 1011 Midnight (Main Colour MC), 1001 White, 1023 Raspberry, 1218 Parchment, 1246 Lipstick, 1422 Aspen, 1709 Gold, 1826 Empire
You can use any Worsted Weight/Aran yarn to achieve a similar effect
Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm)
Notes
You will attach the 14 squares together to form a long strip, and a border is then crocheted to each side
Instructions for Crochet Granny Square Scarf
Granny Square (make 14)
Each round is worked in a different colour
With first colour make a magic ring
Round 1 (RS): Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2 here and throughout), 3 dc in ring, (ch 2, 3 dc in ring) twice, 2 dc in ring, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch. Fasten off.
Round 2: Join 2nd colour in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same sp, *ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp; rep from * twice more, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch. Fasten off.
Round 3: Join 3rd colour in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same sp, *ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp; rep from * twice more, ch 1, 3 dc in last ch-1 sp, ch 1, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch. Fasten off.
Round 4: Join 4th colour in any corner ch-2 sp, ch 5, 3 dc in same sp, *(ch 1, 3 dc) in each ch-1 sp across to next ch-2 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp; repeat from * twice more, (ch 1, 3 dc) in each ch-1 sp across to next corner, ch 1, 2 dc in first ch-2 sp, join with sl st in 3rd ch of beg ch. Fasten off.
Finishing
With right sides held together and working through outer loops only, whip stitch squares together to form a long strip.
Border
Side 1
Row 1 : With right side facing, using MC, join in first 2-ch corner space. Ch 3, 1 dc in sp, *[3 dc in ch-1 sp] 3 times, [3 dc in ch-2 sp] twice, rep from * across, 2 dc in last ch-2 sp, turn. Fasten off.
Turn piece to work on other side of strip.
Side 2
Row 1 : With right side facing, using MC, join in first 2-ch corner space. Ch 3, 1 dc in sp, *[3 dc in ch-1 sp] 3 times, [3 dc in ch-2 sp] twice, rep from * across, 2 dc in last ch-2 sp, turn. Fasten off.
Row 2 : Using 2nd colour, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), *skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp; rep from * across, 1 dc in beg ch 3, turn. Fasten off yarn
Row 3 : Using 3rd colour, ch 3, 1 dc in same st, * skip next 3 dc, 3 dc in next sp; rep from * across, 2 dc in beg ch 3, turn. Fasten off yarn
Rep rows 2 & 3 three more times, with final row in MC. Total of 9 rows.
Fringe
Make a total of 18 fringes in a selection of colors. For each fringe, cut 3 strands of yarn approx. 25” in length and fold in half. Attach 9 evenly across each end of scarf, and trim if needed.
