This is one of those cotton crochet washcloth patterns you’ll come back to again and again.
My favourite way to unwind is by crocheting a cotton crochet washcloth – they’re quick, simple, and so satisfying to finish. You wont be able to stop at just one!
This free pattern uses an easy stitch made with just single crochet and chains, creating a soft textured fabric that’s both practical and lovely to use. It’s a relaxing project and a thoughtful gift, especially when wrapped with a favourite bar of soap.
Add the optional delicate border for a simple finishing touch that makes it extra special.

Yarn for a Crochet Washcloth and Dishcloth
For this cotton crochet washcloth pattern, I used DK weight cotton yarn with a 4mm crochet hook. Cotton is the best choice for washcloths and dishcloths – it’s sturdy, holds its shape well, and washes beautifully after repeated use.
You can also use aran or worsted weight cotton yarn with a 5mm hook. This makes it a great stash-busting project if you have leftover cotton yarn to use up.
Keep in mind that thicker yarn will create a larger washcloth. The pattern includes the stitch multiple, so you can easily adjust the size. For best results, pair DK weight yarn with a 4mm hook and worsted weight yarn with a 5mm hook.

Color Notes for the Washcloth
Each washcloth uses less than a 50g ball of cotton yarn. But you can use up smaller amounts of cotton yarn in your stash for two-color version. I used 2 small leftover balls of yarn to crochet the yellow and cream cloth, and it looks so pretty!
You can use a single color for each cloth or use two colors for a striped version. Simply change color every 2 rows. This pattern is perfect for all those cotton yarn scraps.
