Pattern uses US crochet terms, and you can find UK terms in Abbreviations.

I used scraps of 4 ply/fingering weight yarn for my flowers, but you can use any yarn weight you wish – just use a matching hook. My favourite yarn for making flowers is the wonderful Scheepjes Cotton 8 yarn which has ALL the colours! With excellent stitch definition, this is perfect for smaller projects like these crochet flowers.

  • 3mm Crochet Hook
  • Pearl Beads
  • Bobby Pins/Hair Grips
  • Glue gun

Crochet Hook Sizes

  • DK weight – 3.5mm hook
  • 4 ply/fingering weight – 2.5mm or 3.00mm hook

A flower made in DK weight yarn is approx. 2.5″

A flower made in 4 ply/fingering weight yarn is approx. 2″

dc – double crochet

ch – chain

sl st – slip stitch

st – stitch

rep – repeat

UK Crochet terms

Instructions to make Crochet Flowers Clips

Ch 2

Round 1: Make 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join with a sl st to beg sc – 10 sc

Round 2: Ch 2, 1 dc in same st,[ 1dc, ch 2, sl st] in next st, * sl st in next st, ch 2, 1 dc in same st, [1 dc, ch 2, sl st] in next st; rep from * 2 more times, do not fasten off yarn – 5 petals

With right side of flower facing you, you will now work behind row 2. Hold the petals forward so you can see your work.

Round 3:  Working behind row 2, work 1 sl st into st/sp (hook 2 loops to create a stable base to work from) between 2 petals, (ch 3, 1 sl st in st/sp between next 2 petals) 4 times. Ch 3, sl st to 1st sl st to close. Do not fasten off yarn – 5 x ch-3 loop spaces

Round 4: Sl st into 1st ch-3 space, * [ch2, 3dc, ch2, slst] in same space, sl st into next ch-3 space; Repeat from * to ; total of 5 times. Fasten off yarn – 5 petals

For a fuller petal, you could make [ch2, 4dc, ch2, slst] in same space, sl st into next ch-3 space

Using your glue gun, attach a pearl bead to centre of crochet flower. Put a small amount of glue to centre back of flower and press bobby pin in place firmly. Leave to dry. You can also use barrette clips and sew the flower to the clip with a strong cotton thread.

You can find a pattern for some crochet leaves here and attach one to the back of your crochet flower.

Do you have a video tutorial for this? I’m not as good at following a written pattern.
