I chose a beautiful peacock blue yarn in merino wool but you could use any yarn you have in your stash. This scarf would work beautifully in cotton yarn for a spring accessory.

Details of the Simple Crochet Scarf Pattern

This easy crochet stitch pattern uses DK weight yarn (#3/light weight). To make a scarf the same size requires approximately 330m of yarn to complete.

You will just be using double crochet, single crochet stitches and chain stitches so this pattern is perfect for a beginner too.

It’s a smallish cozy scarf that ties beautifully when knotted loosely at the neck. The mesh stitch creates a lovely drape without being heavy, making it perfect for layering over jumpers or wearing on its own.

Yarn and Materials for the Crochet Scarf Pattern

I used the following amount of yarn and hook for my scarf:

  • 330m (361yds) DK weight (#3) yarn
  • 4 mm hook

I picked King Cole Luxury Yak DK for its magical Merino-yak blend – super soft, durable, and with that lovely natural sheen that makes the colors sing.

Any DK or light worsted yarn is a great substitute if you’re working from your stash. Just note that a different fiber content or weight could alter the finished size and drape of your scarf.
