Yarn for a Crochet Stuffed Heart

For the best results for a large crochet heart, use a worsted weight cotton yarn combined with a 3.5 or 4 mm crochet hook.

The smaller than recommended hook size ensures that your hearts are as tight and neat as possible. This way, each heart retains its shape beautifully after stuffing.

You will also need a small amount of a thinner yarn for the lace edging. I used a cream sports weight yarn I had in my stash. You will need a small amount of toy stuffing as well.

This is a great project for using up leftover yarn scraps!

Stuffed Crochet Heart Sizes

Feel free to experiment with different yarn weights and hook sizes to create a range of hearts in different sizes. For those who prefer little hearts, try a 4 ply cotton yarn and a 2.5 mm hook.

You can use any weight yarn for this pattern and a smaller than recommended hook. Your crochet heart size will depend on yarn weight and hook you use

  • For fingering weight or sports weight yarn use a 2.5 mm hook
  • For DK weight yarn use a 3 mm hook
  • For worsted weight yarn use a 3.5 or 4 mm hook
