Crochet Heart Coaster for Valentine’s Day – Free Pattern

If you love making crochet hearts, you will surely enjoy making these Crochet Heart Coasters! They are made in a circle, with pretty lace details to form tiny hearts around the edge.

A lovely handmade gift for Valentine’s Day, or any occasion. They remind me of Vintage Crochet Doilies!

I used a 4-ply Cotton yarn to make my coasters but you can use any yarn weight and matching hook you have in your stash. I recommend cotton yarn to give you a sturdier piece.

You can make your crochet heart coasters in a single colour, or as many colours as you wish. They are just the perfect project for relaxing calming crochet!

Vintage Crochet Hearts

Notes

• Pattern instructions are in US Crochet terms
• Gauge is not important for this project. Just keep your hook size and tension consistent

Measurements

5.5 inches (14 cm) in diameter

Materials

• Small amounts of cotton yarn. I used Scheepjes Cotton 8 – 4 ply/100% cotton (You can use any yarn weight and matching hook)
• 3.5mm Crochet Hook
• Yarn needle

Instructions for Crochet Heart Coaster for Valentine’s Day

Special Stitches

2 Double Crochet cluster (2dc cl): In indicated space or st, work (yo, insert hook in space/st, yo and pull up loop, yo and pull through 2 loops on hook) twice, yo and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Double crochet 3 together decrease (dc3tog): (Yo, insert hook in next st, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 3 times, yo, draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Double crochet 4 together decrease (dc4tog): (Yo, insert hook in next st, draw up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook) 4 times, yo, draw through all 5 loops on hook.

Pattern Instructions

Chain 4, and join into a ring

Round 1: Ch 3, 1 dc into the ring (counts as 2dc cl), ch 2, *2dc cl, ch 2 into ring; rep from * 6 more times. Join with a sl st to 1^st ch-2 sp – 8 2dc cl

Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), 2 dc in same sp, ch 2 * 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2; rep from * around 6 more times. Join with a sl st to beg ch 3 – 24 dc

Round 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st (at base of ch 3), 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, skip ch-2, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, skip ch-2; rep from * 6 more times. Join with a sl st to beg ch 3 – 40 dc

Round 4: Ch 3, 1 dc in same st, 1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, skip ch-2, * 2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, ch 2, skip ch-2; rep from * 6 more times. Join with a sl st to beg ch 3 – 56 dc

Round 5: Ch 3, dc3tog over next 3 sts (counts as dc4tog), ch 3, dc4tog, making 1^st dc in st just made and next 3 sts, ch 3, 1 dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, * dc4tog over next 4 sts, ch 3, dc4tog, making 1^st dc in st just made and next 3 sts, ch 3, 1 dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3; rep from * 6 more times. Join with a sl st to beg ch 3.

Round 6: Sl st into next ch-3 sp (or if using different colour, join yarn in any ch-3 sp), ch 1, [2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc] in same sp, * [2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc] in next ch -3 sp; rep from * in each ch-3 sp around. Join with a sl st to beg sc. Fasten off yarn and weave in all threads.

Round 6: Sl st into next ch-3 sp (or if using different colour, join yarn in any ch-3 sp), ch 1, 4 sc in same sp, * 4 sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * each ch-3 sp around. Join with a sl st to beg sc. Fasten off yarn.

Round 7: Join yarn in the 1^st sc of any group of 4 sc, ch 1, 1 sc in next 2 sts, ch 2, 1 sc in next 2 sts, * 1 sc in next 2 sts, ch 2, 1 sc in next 2 sts; rep from * around. Join with a sl st to beg sc. Fasten off yarn and weave in all threads.
