This neutral crochet baby blanket, worked in baby-soft yarn, has a timeless look that would be at home in any modern nursery. With a simple lace stitch pattern and a relaxing repeat, you will love to crochet this heirloom baby blanket that will be cherished for generations!

Inspiration for this Lacy Heirloom Crochet Baby Blanket
This crochet baby blanket is a neutral version of the Lace Fan Stitch Baby Blanket that I released in 2020. That one used shades of pink and cream.
For the Oisín Blanket, I wanted to see how this lacy shell stitch crochet pattern would look in a single color. I love how fresh and clean this baby blanket looks in this warm cream!
In a neutral color, this crochet shell baby blanket would be ideal as a christening blanket or for a neutral nursery. If you prefer a hint of color, it would also look lovely in a pastel shade like pale pink or mint green—any light color that will capture the highlights and shadows of the textured stitch pattern.

Details of the Heirloom Lace Baby Blanket Crochet Pattern
This blanket is worked in a lacy shell stitch crochet pattern. This simple 4-row repeat uses only basic stitches to create a series of shells and v-stitches. This stitch pattern is so fun and easy to work, even for beginners!
This free easy lacy baby blanket crochet pattern includes stitch counts for three sizes—preemie, baby, and toddler. However, if you’d like to make a different size of blanket, you can use a shorter or longer foundation chain with a stitch multiple of 8 ch (+ 2).

Yarn for the Heirloom Lace Crochet Baby Blanket Pattern
I used the following amount of yarn and hooks for my blanket:
- 550 – 600m worsted weight yarn
- 4.5mm & 5mm hooks
I used King Cole Comfort Aran, which is an acrylic-nylon blend that’s perfect for baby projects. It’s incredibly soft against baby’s skin, durable, and easy to care for.
You can use any other medium (#4) weight yarn that you have available. Just keep in mind that whatever yarn you choose should be soft and preferably machine washable.
If you wish, you can also try using a different weight of yarn. However, your yardage will vary. I recommend making a gauge swatch to get a better idea of the size of your blanket and how much yarn you will need.

Finishing
I would recommend blocking your blanket to give it an even finish. Lay project out on a mat or towel and pull gently into shape. Pin in place and spray lightly with water and leave to dry.
