Crochet Rainbow Flowers Applique

May 11, 2020

I made some cheerful little Crochet Rainbow Flowers for a friend recently to hang on her front window, and wanted to share the easy quick Free Pattern with you! You could string them together to make a garland or attach them to a bag. They would look fabulous decorating a straw bag for Summer.

All you will need is some small scraps of yarn to make these crochet applique flowers, and you will be whipping up a bunch of them to share in no time! I have a stash of cotton yarn in ALL the colours, so I choose 7 Rainbow shades to make my flowers. The yarn I used is Scheepjes Catona, a sport weight cotton yarn, but you could use any weight yarn and matching hook.

Instructions for the pattern is written in US Crochet Terms

Skill Level

Only basic stitches are used in this pattern

Measurements

Each flower measures 3.25in [8.5cm] across in the sports weight yarn used

Gauge is not important for this project.

Materials

  • Small amounts of Cotton Yarn. I used a sports weight yarn Scheepjes Catona in 7 Rainbow colours
  • 3.5mm crochet hook
  • Yarn Needle to weave in threads
  • You can use any yarn weight you choose and a matching hook

Tips

  • Crochet over your ends when you are making the first few stitches of each round. The tight sc stitches will hide the ends and save you all the weaving in!
  • I use the ch 1 at the beginning of a round to count as my 1st sc, and sl st into that chain to join each row. I think it makes a neater round, but feel free to use your prefered method. Just make sure your stitch count is correct at the end of each round.

Thank you so much for the pattern. I found tweaking it a bit makes for a fun sun appliqué by doing tr2tog with a picot at the top of each tr2tog. It’s exactly the sun appliqué I’ve been looking for for months and you helped me get there! I can’t thank you enough!
