Christmas crochet stars will add a twinkle to your holiday season. This free crochet pattern uses only small scraps of cotton yarn to make these unconventional Christmas crochet decorations. These Crochet Stars may look fiddly to make but they are really easy!
You can make them as individual Christmas crochet stars and add a hanging loop to use on your Holiday tree or mantle. You could also combine several to make a crochet garland! Include one in your Christmas cards, or add as a lovely touch to embellish your gifts.
I called these crochet stars Nollag Réaltaí – The Irish for Christmas Stars. I would pronounce it Nullig Rail-tee, but it can differ in parts of Ireland how certain words are pronounced!

The Yarn for the Christmas Crochet Stars
To make my colourful Christmas stars, I used Scheepjes Catona, a fingering weight/4 ply (#1) cotton yarn and a 3mm hook. Cotton yarn looks particularly nice because it holds its shape well and you can really see the detail of the stitches.
Since they use only small amounts of yarn, these stars are perfect for stash busting. You can use YarnSub.com to find alternative yarns by weight, fiber content, and more.
You can also make these stars in different sizes by using different weights of yarn. It’s a quick and easy pattern so you can make several and see how they turn out! Experiment and see what you can come up with!
