Yarn for a Crochet Lace Scarf
I fell for the beautiful Indigo and petrol blue shades in this lace-weight yarn, and knew that a crochet lacy scarf was the perfect project for it. I choose to use a 3.5mm crochet hook to keep the pattern open and loose, but you may prefer to use a 3.00mm hook – make a swatch and see what works best for your tension.
You can use fingering-weight yarn if you prefer – lace-weight yarn can seem intimidating at first but don’t be afraid to try it as it makes the most lovely crochet fabric!
The pattern is easily adaptable to any lightweight yarn and you can find some tips in the Notes section.
Lace crochet patterns can also be made using a heavier weight yarn so you could try a shorter version in a worsted weight or DK weight as well.

What Stitches are Used in this Lacy Scarf
This lacy crochet scarf pattern uses basic crochet stitches – chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet. The chain stitch creates open spaces and an airy texture.
The single crochet stitch adds structure while maintaining lightness, and the double crochet stitch adds height to the intricate lace motifs.
By combining these stitches, you will create an elegant and intricate pattern that showcase the beauty of lace in your scarf design!

Only basic stitches are used in this scarf pattern and it is suitable for a confident beginner
Materials
- Bilum Hand dyed Yarns – Pukpuk Lace Weight /765yds [700m]: 80% Merino Wool, 20% Silk/100gr)
- 3.5mm [E/4} crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- You can use 500 – 600m of any lace weight yarn, or yarn weight of your choice and matching hook size
Measurements
Scarf pictured measures 92in [234cm] long x 12in [30cm] wide after blocking

- Beg beginning

Notes
- The scarf is worked from the bottom up in rows. The length can be adjusted by working more or fewer pattern repeats. I choose to add a few rows of dc and filet to break up the lace pattern but you can omit them if you prefer
- The pattern would work beautifully with fingering weight yarn (approx. 600m) – just make sure you finish on row 9 of the four row lace repeat, before you continue to the solid/filet section.
- Includes written instructions and a chart.
- Free pattern written in US crochet terms.
- Ch 2 at the beginning of a row counts as 1 dc
- Gauge is not important.
- Multiple is 6 sts + 5 if you wish to adjust the width of the scarf

Using 3.5mm hook, ch 65
Row 1: 1 dc in 5th ch from hook, dc in each ch across, turn – 62 dc
Row 2: Ch 2 (counts as 1 dc here and throughout), dc in next st and each st across, turn – 62 dc
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in next st, * ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 2, dc in each st and ch-1 sp across, turn – 62 dc
Row 5: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn – 62 dc
Row 6: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), sc in first 2 sts, * ch 6, skip 4 sts, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn.
Row 7: Ch 2, dc in next st, * ch 2, sc in next ch-6 sp, ch 2, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn.
Row 8: Ch 2, dc in next st, * ch 3, sl st in next sc, ch 3, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn.
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, * ch 4, skip next [ch 3, sl st, ch 3], sc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn
Row 10: Ch 1, sc in first 2 sts, * ch 6, skip next ch 4, sc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn.
Rows 11 – 26: Repeat rows 7 – 10 four times
Rows 27 – 29: Repeat rows 7 – 9
Row 30: Ch 2, dc in next st, * 4 dc in next ch-4 sp, dc in next 2 sts; rep from * across, turn – 62 dc
Row 31: Repeat row 3
Row 32: Repeat row 4
Row 33: Repeat row 6
You can make your scarf shorter if you wish, by finishing a repeat at a row 9, and continuing on to row 209
Rows 34 – 205: Repeat rows 7 – 10
Rows 206 – 208: Repeat rows 7 – 9
Row 209: Repeat row 30
Row 210: Repeat row 3
Row: 211: Repeat row 4
Row 212: Repeat row 6
Rows 213 – 229: Repeat rows 7 – 10 four times
Rows 230 – 232: Repeat rows 7 – 9
Row 233: Repeat row 30
Rows 234 – 237: Repeat rows 2 – 5. Fasten off.
Finishing
Weave in all loose ends. Soak your scarf in lukewarm water and gently wring in a towel. Lay project out to finished size and pull gently into shape. Pin in place and leave to dry.

I made this for my mom as a birthday present. I ended up using a 2mm hook though with a lace weight baby silkpaca yarn, since I wanted it to be slightly tighter with more defined stitches but still airy. I also adapted it to be an infinity scarf by ending on row 9 and seaming it to the beginning, keeping an even number of lace blocks amongst the solid bands. The pattern was very easy to follow and turned out beautifully!

To be sure before I begin, this pattern is worked across the 12 inch short end. Not the length. Is this correct? It may seem like a rather stupid question but I had a stroke awhile back and my short term memory doesn’t always catch on fast. Thanks so much. Beautiful work.

Quick question. The multiple is 6 st+3, but the stitch count per row is 62. I’m guessing you mean multiples of 6 + 2?

Hi! I purchased the yarn at a yarn show so it is possible it is unavailable now. I suggest you look at Hobbii yarns. They sell a lot of gradient yarns and may have a similiar colorway:)
