crochet coasters free pattern summer easy make

Sharing is caring!

A free crochet pattern for easy crochet coasters! Made in the round, this modern pattern will have you reaching for your stash to make some in all the colours.

As soon as I put this colour combination together, I knew I had to make some crochet coasters! Zesty oranges, lime and yellow work so well together, don’t they? These would be perfect for a Summer garden party, and would look stunning adding a bright pop of colour to your kitchen table.

I made some crochet flower coasters recently in a smaller design, but this time wanted to make bigger, and brighter.

Details for Easy Crochet Coasters

The colours work so well together and give such a cheery vibe. Look at those citrus, zesty circles! They work up quickly, only a few ends to weave in and you are done.

Just select 5 colours that you like, and make a set. They would make great little gifts for Teachers at the end of school term.

Tie a ribbon around the coasters for the finishing touch, or crochet a long chain to use instead….a very pretty finishing touch!

Yarn

I used a cotton DK yarn to make my coasters, and the size worked out perfectly to make a generous table mat for a glass or bowl, approx. 5.75in/15cm.

You could use a heavier weight cotton yarn and make larger crochet motifs, just change up your hook size to match.

Materials

  • Small amounts of Cotton DK weight Yarn in your chosen colours. I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK: 100% Cotton, 50g
  • 3.5mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle to weave in threads
  • Scissors

Size

Coasters are approx. 5.75″ [15cm] in diameter when using the suggested yarn weight and hook. You could use a heavier weight yarn and matching hook to make larger motifs, just see what is in your stash!

Notes for Making Crochet Coasters

  • Tension is not important for this pattern but using a smaller than recommended hook, makes the coaster more firm
  • You will change colour every row
  • Pattern uses US crochet terms

I made a set of four, and will tie them in a ribbon for a gift – they would make a lovely handmade Teachers present for the end of school year. Just choose 5 colours!
